Sylvan Grove Hospital has a new emergency ham radio station — and it is not in the cafeteria.
#The Butts County Amateur Radio Emergency Service group has moved its operations to a less public area of the hospital after getting new equipment with a grant.
#ARES member Buzz Kutcher said it took about two years from the time the grant was applied for to get the new equipment, which can allow people to talk to one another over amateur radio with or without use of the Internet. The system will get its first test Oct. 3 during a national emergency communications exercise that simulates a biologic attack on Atlanta.
#“The equipment was provided by a grant from the Georgia Hospital Association,” Kutcher said. “This equipment is typical of what they’ve provided. A lot of hospitals in the state have at least one radio connection.”….
