AVON — An amateur radio tower that might be built in a residential backyard has an Avon man upset the city’s Zoning Board granted a variance for its construction.
Glenn Williams approached the board in May to request a variance to construct a 50-foot tower about 300 feet from his house in the center of his 100-foot-wide Stoney Ridge Road lot.
City code only allows 40-foot structures to be erected on residential properties, and any structures attached directly to homes can’t be taller than the home.
The board granted the variance for a 50-foot tower despite the objections of Williams’ neighbors, who are concerned about a potential eyesore and the possibility of diminished property values.
