“Superb flexibility“
Over the last few years I have been working on developing the ultimate solution for lightweight 2m activating. After many attempts, I have developed the MFD. It has been tested on many mountains in North Wales and the Lake District and has proved to be an excellent performer. It is light, fast to set up, incredibly flexible and gives great performance. …and perhaps best of all, it fits inside most rucksacks!
Designed for SOTA, WOTA, Raynet and general portable use. Its small packed size also makes it great for holidays too – it easily fits in a suitcase.
The MFD gives a huge improvement over using handy with a rubber duck antenna (up to 10dB better – that’s equivalent to running ten times more power!)
The 2m MFD allows the user to choose a number of configurations to suit their exact needs in any situation:
- It’s a vertical dipole for FM use on the summit;
- It’s a rucksack antenna for FM use whilst walking; and
- It’s a horizontal dipole for use on 2m SSB.
That’s not all as it can be configured to work free-standing using a simple guying kit or simply slotted into a handy crevice in the rocks or bushes.
The 2m MFD generally gives a good VSWR on 70 cm too (not guaranteed). However the radiation pattern for 70 cm operation is sub-optimal. For great 70 cm performance check out our 70 cm vertical which is designed to be used with the same extensions tubes that come with your MFD.
Specifications
- VSWR better than 1.5:1 across the 2m band (typical)
- Packed length 53cm
- Weight less than 430gm (complete antenna, support system and feeder)
- Power rating 100 Watts
- Works straight out of the packet – no adjustments required
