Battery Back-Up Module for Ham Radio
by DainBramage
DESCRIPTION
The problem, which is faced by many amateur radio operators around the world, is that commercial power is not inherently reliable. Very often, the times when amateur radio communications are needed most are the same times that external power is not available. Many people turn to handheld radios at these times only to discover that they are insufficient.
This project is an attempt to create a self-contained in-line battery charger for SLA batteries that will also automatically switch over to battery power during power outages. This device, which can be inserted into nearly any amateur radio power system that is equipped with Anderson Powerpole connectors, will provide the backup power needed to maintain communications. The only limitations on duration are due to battery capacity and the current drawn by devices connected to the in-line charger.
With this device, communications can be maintained in situations when it would otherwise be unavailable due to lack of power.
