South Florida amateur radio operators are also keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Erika.
They’re ready to jump in and offer their assistance if the storm becomes a serious threat.
The Director of the West Palm Beach Amateur Radio Club, Tom Gallagher, grew up taking things apart and then putting them back together again, which is why he has a passion for amateur radio.
He’s proud to be able to assist first responders when there’s a disaster.
“Imagine a hurricane coming to Palm Beach county the kids in New York are calling mom and dad where are you? We’re the people gathering information Mom and Dad are at the red cross shelter, they’re warm and dry and the Salvation Army is feeding them right now,” said Gallagher….
