A large hourglass-shaped hole in the sun’s atmosphere is facing Earth and spewing solar wind in our direction. Estimated time of arrival: Aug. 5th-6th. NOAA forecasters say that minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are possible when the gaseous material arrives. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras, especially in the southern hemisphere where winter darkness favors visibility.
