Architecture of Radio
Architecture of Radio is a neat app, showing you what the world of radio “would” look like, if you could see in the Electromagnetic spectrum; a better way to put it is that it gives an artist’s rendition of what the electromagnetic spectrum might be. I say “might”, because it is debatable how useful it really is. For example, I cannot see my Wifi router, even when I am standing less than a foot from it. Though the router may be using an encrypted signal, it is still transmitting one, so I should be able to see it regardless. Nor can I see any other routers immediately in the vicinity, such as communication networking devices connected to game consoles (of which, due to the prevalence of online multiplayer games, there should be many).
It is also not obvious if the information displayed is in any way accurate or just some approximation of signal points. The software claims to use a database of OpenCellID system registers for its measurements, which is probably true, but that also most likely means it doesn’t get updated that often. There is really no way to know without using actual router mapping software and private antenna systems, and plotting all the hotspots manually. At best, it is a cool toy, and at worst, a complete fabrication of information with misleading claims of data mapping.
In conclusion, fun but most likely not accurate. It is best used for entertainment purposes only.
The Architecture of Radio app lets you visualize signals around you based on a dataset that includes almost 7 million cell towers, 19 million Wi-Fi routers and hundreds of satellites.
Every time we use our phones, tablets or laptops we are entering an invisible world of wireless digital signals. It is a world that we cannot see but that is literally all around us.
The Architecture of Radio is a 360 degree data visualization of what this world might look like. It shows the cell towers, GPS satellites and Wi-Fi routers around you that allow us to live our digital lives
