You are looking at a AG6IF built 2 meter ham radio antenna.
3 dimensional folded Full wave loop design. Rugged and solid with soldered copper connections.
Being a full wave loop, Ground losses are minimized and this antenna works very well when close to the ground.
Original design by Dave, w x 7 g and featured in the ARRL handbook or antenna book years back.
This antenna has both a vertical and horizontal radiation pattern and was called “eliptical” by the creator.
Using my analyzer, I have created a very good reproduction of this great antenna design, and improved the feed point.
The 3DFL has a great front to back ratio. (see pic #4 as I rotate the antenna in a 360 degree cycle and measure the S reading from a distant repeater.
You can rotate the antenna to obtain the best signal as the front to back S reading in my tests to a local packet repeater showed
from between s7 to s1 on the uncalibrated S meter on my Ft2600 rig.
Hang it up, or place it on the coffee table.
Connect it to your HT and throw away your rubber ducky antenna.
If you are looking for a stealthy 2m 70cm antenna that can be hung from a low branch or PVC stick, or used just sitting on the end table inside the house, this is the one you want.
Plans are available on my QRZ page (AG6IF) but if you just want to buy one ready to go, this is it.
If you wonder why the price is where it is..It takes me about 3 hours to build one, and I usually end up grabbing a hot section
and burning my fingers a couple times, therefore, I am going to declare that this antenna is moderate to difficult to build.
A small propane torch is needed and a tubing cutter, and the feed point requires some skill to assemble, as well as a good antenna analyzer to dial in the final tuning..
It is constructed of 1/2 copper pipe, and tuned to be nearly perfect SWR between 145.500 and 146.500. The entire 2m band is typically under 1.5 to 1 with the best point is under 1.1, sometimes much less.
Although not designed as a 440 70cm antenna, it works pretty good anyway.
440 band is generally around 2.5/1 at the lowest edge and around 1.6/1 in the middle and up to 2.5/1 at the upper edge.
Crossbanding works most excellent.
Check out one of the 2m SWR sweeps in the picture set.
I will include an actual chart of the antenna, 2m SWR / resonant sweep graph, made with my AIM4170C with each antenna that is made from that exact antenna when produced.
Sorry, no international shipping available on this item at this time.
