160m Reduced ½ Sloper
Do You Have Limited Space?
Do You Dream Of Operating 160m? NO PROBLEM!
Do you have 45′ of space and have the ability to hang an antenna from a tower or tree 40′-45′ up, then you can be operating on 160m band in no time flat.
After extensive testing, the power rating on the W8AMZ 160m Reduced Half Sloper antenna has been increased to 1 KW SSB!
( 1000 Watts into a properly tuned antenna at or near resonant frequency, lowest swr and X ≈ 0. )
The 160m Reduced Half Sloper is for 160m operation when space is limited. At first, most hams will ask, “Will it perform as well as a full 160m half wave dipole?” of course it will not, a full size 160m dipole requires a minimum of 260 feet. That’s a luxury that the majority of us ham’s can only dream of enjoying. The Reduced Half Sloper only needs 45’ or so. It does provide a very good compromise and makes it possible for hams with limited space to get on 160m with good results.
It does provide very good band width for 160m operation. The 160m Reduced Half Sloper loads 120khz below 2.1:1SWR when properly trimed/tuned, and the entire 160m band 1.8-2.0 Mhz at 3.1:1 or less. As stated before, half the entire band is below 2.1:1 or less without a tuner.
The Reduced Half Sloper requires being mounted on a tower or hung from a tree at or about 40’-45’ up. When hanging from a tree it will be necessary to run a wire down to a ground rod. Otherwise attach the ground wire to the tower. The main wire element runs towards the ground on a angle as sharp as 45 degree. 70’ of wire is included for this and will need to be trimmed for best SWR, usually around 68 feet.
80m Reduced Half Sloper
After extensive testing, the power rating on the W8AMZ 80m Reduced Half Sloper antenna has been increased to 1 KW SSB!
( 1000 Watts into a properly tuned antenna at or near resonant frequency, lowest swr and X ≈ 0. )
just like my 160m Reduced Half Sloper the 80m version will allow you to get on the 80m band with relatively little space. Just hang it 25′-30′ high with about 30′ of space, and your up and running on the popular 80m band.
The first question I’m asked is “Will it perform as well as a full 80m half wave dipole?” of course it will not, a full size 80m dipole requires 130 feet. That’s a luxury that a lot of ham’s can only dream of enjoying. The 80m Reduced Half Sloper only needs about 30′ and to be mounted about 25′-30′ high. It does provide a very good compromise and makes it possible for hams with limited space to get on 80m with good results.
It does provide very good band width for 80m operation. The 80m Reduced Half Sloper loads better then 200khz at 2.1:1 SWR or less when properly trimed/tuned without a tuner.
