Producer and amateur radio operator Dave Bell (W6AQ) has written a memoir with a twist that hams will enjoy.
In its 302 pages, “World’s Best Hobby” chronicles Bell’s personal and professional history, with a special focus on his amateur radio history and his interactions with Hollywood (and Washington) celebrities as a documentary and reality show producer.
“When I was writing “World’s Best Hobby” I didn’t realize that I was writing a book about old-timers (of course they weren’t old timers, most of them, when I first met them). I wasn’t an old timer either. But, of course I am now, and filled to the brim with the wisdom of the elderly.
This new web page is set up for you to sample the contents of “World’s Best Hobby” and offers links where you can buy a copy of the book. I should mention that I have signed the copies being sold by The DX Store and ARRL. The Amazon copies are unsigned, however if you buy the book and bring it to Dayton or the International DX Convention in Visalia, CA, I’ll be happy to sign your copy.
I chose Chapter 12 as a sample because many of us have endured basic training in the military. It only has a little bit to do with Ham Radio but I think it’s a fairly good sample of my writing style. Later on, the book covers my filming of King Hussein of Jordon, Barry Goldwater, and Walter Cronkite, among others.
So many people have told me that “World’s Best Hobby” is a “good read” that I’ve chosen to believe them.
