An Affordable Tribander HT Available Today!
BaoFeng Tech announced today the release of the BTECH UV-5X3 The UV-5X3 is more than just a “UV-5R with a third-band added”; the UV-5X3 is a full overhaul to the world’s favorite amateur radio – the BaoFeng UV-5R.
Our Most Customizable Handheld Radio
First and foremost, the UV-5X3 was built by adding filtering and support for the 220MHz Amateur band. The original UV-5R was a 4-watt dual-band radio; while the UV-5X3 can now output 5-watts on VHF and 4-watts on both 1.25M and UHF. The UV-5X3 focused specifically on the amateur band frequencies of the 1.25M band during design. The UV-5X3 supports: 65-108MHz (RX only – FM Radio), 130-179.99MHz (RX/TX), 222-225.99MHz (RX/TX), and 400-520.99MHz (RX/TX)
We also simplified scanning on the UV-5X3. We listened to our users that frequently customize their scanning lists and our users that want to have more flexibility to scanning on-the-fly. The UV-5X3 made changes to both frequency and channel scanning. In channel mode, the UV-5X3 adds a new menu option to easily add or remove any channel from the scanning list; while in frequency mode the UV-5X3 allows you to enter in a specific frequency range to scan. You no longer have to edit the VFO range through a computer or are forced to scan the whole band when you only what to scan a small portion the band.
Due to popular demand, we have also brought over the synchronized display mode from our BTECH mobiles. You can now display the channel name and frequency of a single channel on both displays. This simplifies the operation for those who prefer to monitor a single channel. It also allows you to have the most information avilable by displaying both a channel’s name and its frequency without any toggle. The synchronized display mode also works during scanning too, and can be turned on or off with a menu option at any time.
DTMF Remote Commands
The UV-5X3 can respond to remote commands. By remotely sending DTMF tones you can both ‘Stun’ (Transmit Disable) or ‘Kill’ (Disables all functions) the UV-5X3. You also can ‘Revive’ a UV-5X3 from its “stunned” or “killed” state. You can also remotely turn on the microphone through ‘Monitor’; or ensure the radio is within range by using ‘Inspect’ (replies with a confirmation tone when it is within range).
Along with being able to previously send ANI (DTMF Identification); You can now enable “Decoding” the incoming ANI (DTMF) tones right on your display.
The First Handheld Radio to be Solely Programmable through CHIRP Software
The UV-5X3 is completely programmable using CHIRP. This means for the hundreds of radios already supported through CHIRP – you can easily import your radio data from your previous handheld or mobile radio right into the UV-5X3, which makes it that much easier to program. What also makes CHIRP support unique on the UV-5X3, is that CHIRP is the sole software option for the UV-5X3 on a ‘Day One’ release.

On-the-Go Selectable Frequency Range Scanning
Remove and Add Channels from Scanning Right in Menu
Full Accessory Compatibility with ALL UV-5R and BF-F8HP accessories
A new 85 Page In-Depth User’s Guide
It includes both the High Gain V-85 Dual Band Antenna and a 220MHz andtenna (specifically tuned to 222-225MHz) to Optimize Performance
TRI-BAND RADIO FOR AMATEUR USEThe UV-5X3 is legal for use on amateur frequencies. The UV-5X3 is able to Transmit on Narrowband (12.5kHz) and Wideband (25kHz).
Tri-Band Radio: 130-179.99mhz (VHF), 222-225.99mhz (1.25M), 400-520.99mhz (UHF)
SIMULTANEOUS DISPLAYFor those that want to have the most information at their fingertips on a specific channel – they can synchronize the displays. You can configure the displays to synchronize and allow both the Channel Name and frequency to simultaneously display on the selected channel.
Frequency Scanning: When scanning in the Frequency (VFO) Mode, you can easily enter in the range and frequency steps that you want to scan without scanning the full frequency band.
DTMF REMOTE COMMANDSThe UV-5X3 can respond to remote commands.
DUAL WATCH RECEIVERThe UV-5X3 has one built-in receiver but can “watch” two channels (semi duplex). Monitor two different frequencies (even on different bands (VHF/1.25M/UHF)) and the radio will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.
ANI UPDATESAlong with being able to previously send ANI (Identification); You can now enable “Decoding” the ANI right on the display
FM BROADCAST STATIONYou can listen to the FM Broadcast radio, while still monitoring your radio frequencies in the background. Any incoming call will be given priority insuring you never miss an important call while listening to the radio.
GROUP TONES SUPPORTEDThe UV-5X3 supports the most common Analog Tones. It supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Set-up your calling methods to call by group tones. Tone calling (private line) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-5X3 supports the latest standards
The UV-5X3 can even send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones; or it can receive incoming DTMF tones to allow for remote stun, kill, revive, monitor, and inspection commands.
INTERNAL VOX FUNCTIONThe UV-5X3 has an internal VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) function for convenient hands-free operation and can be used in conjunction with the included earpiece and mic. The VOX level and VOX delay time are adjustable your needs.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR OPERATION WITH CHANNELS, PROGRAMMABLE BUTTONS, AND MORE!You can program your UV-5X3 exactly how you want it. There are 128 programmable memory channels. You can add or remove channels from scanning list using the free computer software. You can give channels alphanumeric names, using a computer. The radio has 2 power levels (5 watt maximum), allowing you to choose how far you can communicate. You can set VFO limits using the CHIRP software. You can easily program from a PC to set-up the radio to operate exactly as needed.
