20m Ground Plane Kit was originally designed for a project to encourage younger people into the hobby of amateur radio. It was used at the RSGB’s “Youngsters on the Air” YOTA event held in Wolverhampton in July 2014. The project was very successful with all the attendees were delighted to leave with a fully functioning, efficient and lightweight antenna for 20m. Suitable for ages 10+ with adult help.
The antenna has been designed to be supported with a 7m SOTApole (not included). It will work with similar fibreglass telescopic poles. The radials are elevated and hold the support pole up. Our specially designed, laser-cut hardware makes the assembly easy. The kit has instructions and contains all the parts you will need. No soldering is needed and if made correctly the antenna will not require adjustment. Only simple tools will be needed
- wire cutters
- wire strippers
- small screwdriver
- tape measure
- craft knife.
Assembly time – about 1 hour. Detailed instructions are provided.
The finished antenna is supplied complete with feeder (pre-terminated with a BNC plug), a Wire Winder for easy deployment, aluminium alloy pegs and and a smart nylon carry bag. It’s a highly usable lightweight antenna that would be great for most any portable operating. The antenna is rated at 100 Watts. The finished antenna weighs less than 250 g (9 oz.) including feeder and pegs!
Assembling our 20m ground-plane antenna is an enjoyable and educational experience with a great product for you to use at the end. The kit would make a great present to encourage a new amateur into the hobby.
